HEALTH
Healthy is not a goal—it is a way of life
It is commonly known that daycare centers can be breeding grounds for common illnesses that affect young children. Given the germs and viruses which circulate every day, illnesses such as the common cold, pink eye, hand-foot-and-mouth disease, and ear infections can harm children’s health and make a parent's life challenging
MINIMIZING THE SPREAD OF VIRUSES IS OUR GOAL.
Our special hygiene measures enable us to avoid most problems, especially those caused by contamination via wounds or bodily fluids. These measures include thorough cleaning of our centers with professional, environmentally-friendly products which have been approved by the Department of Health and the Department of Children and Family Services.
PERSONAL HYGIENE IS CRUCIAL
We place special emphasis on health and hygiene—including hand washing and personal care—for those adults who are responsible for and working with children. In addition, as part of the Living the Language pedagogy, we teach children about their own personal hygiene: washing their hands and faces, brushing their teeth, blowing their noses, and covering their nose and mouth while sneezing or coughing. Adults and children who understand the importance of self-care help minimize the spread of disease.
PARENT INVOLVEMENT MATTERS!
Viruses are very difficult to control, especially during the cold months. They can easily spread from one child to another. We ask that parents keep their children home until the doctor has given permission to return. A child that is not fully recovered will spread the virus and/or start an outbreak at the center.
It is also important for parents to know how to recognize the signs of an illness or health problem. Stopping the virus on time is our challenge. To do so we rely on our pediatric nurse, Venita Chaidez, and our Center director. They conduct daily health checks as well as regularly inspecting the cleanliness of the center.
